AAAI19 Student Outreach Workshop: Deadline Extended for students local to Hawaii

Cozmo robot demos at AAAI

January 26-27, 2019 Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu HI
Chair: Sheila Tejada, University of Southern California

Undergraduates with an interest in AI or Robotics are invited to apply to the AAAI-19 Student Outreach Workshop, to be held in conjunction with the AAAI (Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence) and EAAI (Educational Applications of Artificial Intelligence) conferences.

This year’s outreach program features the Cozmo robot by Anki. Cozmo is a consumer robot with built-in artificial intelligence, including object and face recognition, speech synthesis, path planning, and navigation.  During the workshop, starting on Saturday morning, January 26 and running through Sunday evening, January 27, participants will learn how to program the Cozmo robot and create a demo, game, or other interactive activity that illustrates how artificial intelligence enables autonomous robots. They will test their creations with K-12 students at an outreach event and give demonstrations during the conference to AAAI and EAAI attendees.

*NO* prior robotics experience is required.

A goal of the AAAI-2019 Student Outreach Workshop is increasing the cultural diversity and inclusiveness of the AI community. We strongly encourage applications from women and other historically underserved minorities. A limited number of travel scholarships will be available.
